Illustrations and Virtual models
The images above represent the kind of modeling challenges I frequently need to resolve. The NASA customer presented me with a pencil sketch of an initial, notional design for a persistent satellite servicing orbital platform (left) on a Wednesday afternoon. The illustration on the right is what I delivered to them by Friday.
I am frequently asked to produce illustrations for notional spacecraft and missions as was the case with this illustration of a in-space construction of a 6-meter telescope.
For the sake of efficient communication, I am asked to illustrate missions to be discussed, before any substantive investment is made. Such was the case with the six images above.
When creating illustrations for NASA books, it was often necessary that compositions contain visual references to the majority of subjects within the pages of that book. This had to be done in a way that ultimately produced a coherent visual narrative.
