NASA and employer Branding
NASA mission branding media is limited and heavily regulated so as to be publicly accessible and free from the possibility of profiteering. There are a limited number of options for products using NASA emblems and specific requirements for their production. I also designed branding media for my private sector employers.
The video above was produced by NASA TV. I was responsible for all of the art on the walls, emblems on documents and computer screens, and embroidery on clothing. I also worked on the animated simulations they used in this release.

My Swales Aerospace employer used the logo type I designed for them for 14 years, until the company was acquired by ATK. During that time we placed the logo type on dozens of products.
I designed the EOS Aqua emblem, then I provided all of the traditional products for a NASA mission. These included mugs, hats, fabric patches, lapel pins, shirts, decals, and magnets. EOS Aqua was the one time I was able to place one of my emblem designs on an actual launch vehicle. You can see these products above.
Vice President, Kamala Harris, Goddard Center Director, Dennis Andrucyk, Maryland Sentor, Chris Vanhollen, and NASA Administrator, Bill Nelson pictured in front of one of my emblem designs, as the Vice President pilots a robotic arm in the robotics laboratory at Goddard Space Flight Center.
The TAS-01 mission flew on STS-85. After designing the emblem for the mission I had to prepare the art to be expressed on thermal blanket patches, which could withstand the rigors of launch, the vacuum of space, and exposure to solar radiation without the protection of an atmosphere, without presenting any contamination risks to anything else in the Space Shuttle cargo bay. This meant it had to be reverse screen printed on transparent Lexan, using thermal resistant inks. The last layer of ink was white, and sealed all of the other inks in place. Above are the actual patches, in the cargo bay, during mission integration.
My products for NASA are in the personal collection of legendary astronaut, Buzz Aldrin.
